Responsible Tourism Västerbotten

We work according to the Responsible Tourism Program, a working method developed to promote a more sustainable tourism industry, where companies, destinations and municipalities work together for increased environmental consideration, resource-saving solutions, and local community development.

The program is based on GSTC’s global standard for sustainable tourism. The program carries out improvement work that is good for both visitors and residents, creates jobs and viable businesses, and that takes place on the terms of nature and culture, which is positive as more and more visitors want to leave the place they have visited in a better condition than they found it.

Our sustainability policy

Olofsfors Mill Museum with all its various activities, run through the foundation, shall be a foundation that works for a better environment by evaluating our activities based on environmental impact.

The Olofsfors Mill Museum Foundation was started in 1974 to manage and preserve the enormous cultural heritage that the mill, dating back to 1762, has. From 2024, we took over a large part of the operations at the mill to ensure the quality of the operations.

Today, in addition to the museum operations, we operate a hotel and conference operations as well as the Handelsboden, which, in addition to the museum, is operated as a shop and information center.

In 2026, the museum will itself run the Anno 1762 café in order to also ensure quality and develop the café operations further
